Emergency repairs
The following are classified as emergency repairs:
- A major water leak where the leak cannot be contained.
- A total loss of electricity where the problem is inside your home.
- Gas leaks that are not covered by the gas company.
- Major structural problems.
- Complete loss of heating.
- Security following a break-in.
- Any repairs to do with your health and safety.
To report an emergency repair:
- During office hours call customer services on 0800 783 1118 or 020 8623 8900
- Out of office hours or at any time on a Saturday, Sunday or Bank Holiday call us on 0845 070 771.
- You should not report an emergency repair online.
What to do if there’s:
A fire
- Dial 999.
- Get everyone out of the house.
- Warn your neighbours.
- Don’t stop for your personal belongings.
A gas leak (i.e. you smell gas in your house)
- Turn off the supply at the mains next to the gas meter
- Open all doors and windows to get rid of the gas.
- Do not turn any electrical appliances on or off or light a match or cigarette.
- Check to see if you’ve left a gas appliance on.
- If you think you have a gas leak, then you’ll need to call Transco on 0800 111999. They are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
An electrical fault (e.g. the lights won’t come on)
- Check your fuse box - If you think a fault might be dangerous, switch off the electricity at the mains supply, which is either next to the fuse box or the meter.
- Contact our repairs service - If the mains supply fails completely, you’ll need to contact the number given on your electricity bill.
A water leak or burst pipe
- Turn off the water supply at the mains stopcock. You’ll normally find this under the kitchen sink.
